Why Listening Matters – On the Power of Listening in Situations of Crisis and Conflict

available in English and German

The act of listening is at the heart of my profession. It is the foundation for sharing stories from around the globe – and it gives many protagonists of these stories a sense of value. Drawing from my encounters and experiences in some of the world’s most challenging contexts – from a sea rescue ship in the Mediterranean to one of Colombia’s most violence-infested regions – I speak about listening itself, the logistics behind it, and why listening is essential to building bridges between the increasingly fragmented realities of life.

TALK II

What I've Learned from Visiting the World's Deadliest Border Regions

available in English and German

International migration is one of the most debated issues of our time. But what is real and what is just a narrative? Through my personal experiences on major migration routes around the world - from a sea rescue mission in the Mediterranean, to navigating a Colombian jungle controlled by drug cartels, to crossing a U.S. desert where temperatures soar above 45°C - I share powerful stories and images that shed light on this complex issue. Grounded in scientific research, these stories aim to bring clarity to a widely misunderstood topic.
